Your BMI falls in the Normal range for adults.
Use BMI as a general guide only. It does not distinguish between fat and muscle mass. Speak to a healthcare professional for personal medical advice.
Body Mass Index (BMI) is a simple number that relates your weight to your height. It is widely used as a quick screening tool to classify adults into categories such as underweight, healthy weight, overweight, and obesity.
BMI does not directly measure body fat, but for most adults it provides a reasonable indication of whether weight is in a range that is typically associated with lower health risk.
| Classification | BMI range (kg/m²) |
|---|---|
| Underweight | < 18.5 |
| Normal weight | 18.5 – 24.9 |
| Overweight | 25.0 – 29.9 |
| Obesity (Class I) | 30.0 – 34.9 |
| Obesity (Class II) | 35.0 – 39.9 |
| Obesity (Class III) | ≥ 40.0 |
BMI uses only height and weight, so it cannot distinguish between fat and lean mass. Very muscular people may have a high BMI but low body fat, while older adults can have a normal BMI but higher body fat and lower muscle mass.
If your BMI falls outside the healthy range, consider discussing it with a qualified healthcare professional who can evaluate your overall health, lifestyle, and body composition.
BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height² (m²)
BMI = 703 × weight (lb) ÷ height² (in²)
BMI Prime is your BMI divided by the upper limit of the healthy range (25 kg/m²). A prime value of 1.00 corresponds to a BMI of 25.
Ponderal Index (PI) is similar to BMI but uses height cubed instead of squared: PI = weight (kg) ÷ height³ (m³). It is sometimes used when comparing people who are very tall or very short.
