Accessibility Features

Keyboard Navigation

All WordCalculator tools can be fully operated using only a keyboard:

  • Use Tab to navigate between interactive elements
  • Use Shift + Tab to navigate backwards
  • Use Enter or Space to activate buttons and links
  • Use arrow keys for navigating menus, dropdowns, and sliders
  • Use Escape to close modals and popups

Screen Reader Support

Our website is compatible with popular screen readers:

  • JAWS (Windows)
  • NVDA (Windows)
  • VoiceOver (macOS and iOS)
  • TalkBack (Android)

We use semantic HTML, ARIA labels, and proper heading structure to ensure screen readers can accurately interpret our content.

Color & Contrast

We ensure optimal color contrast for readability and accessibility:

  • Minimum contrast ratio of 4.5:1 for normal text (WCAG AA)
  • Minimum contrast ratio of 3:1 for large text (18pt+ or 14pt+ bold)
  • Color is never used as the sole method of conveying information
  • Links are clearly distinguishable from surrounding text
  • Focus indicators have sufficient contrast against backgrounds

Users can also switch to high contrast mode in their browser or operating system for enhanced visibility.

Text Resizing

All text on WordCalculator can be resized without loss of content or functionality:

  • Use browser zoom (Ctrl/Cmd + +) to enlarge the entire page up to 200%
  • Use browser text size settings to increase font size
  • Text remains readable and functional at all sizes
  • Layout adapts responsively to maintain usability
  • No horizontal scrolling required at any text size

Our responsive design ensures that content reflows appropriately when text is enlarged, maintaining readability and accessibility.

Alternative Text

All meaningful images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images have empty alt attributes or are implemented as CSS backgrounds.

Responsive Design

Our website is fully responsive and adapts to different screen sizes, from mobile devices to large desktop monitors.

Known Limitations & Improvements

While we strive to make WordCalculator fully accessible, we acknowledge there are areas we're working to improve:

  • Complex Data Visualizations: Some advanced charts and graphs may not be fully accessible to screen readers. We're working on adding text alternatives and ARIA descriptions.
  • Third-Party Content: Some embedded content from third parties may not meet our accessibility standards. We're working with providers to improve this.
  • Dynamic Content Updates: Some real-time updates may not be announced by screen readers. We're implementing ARIA live regions to address this.
  • Mobile Touch Targets: Some touch targets on mobile devices may be smaller than recommended. We're working to increase minimum touch target sizes.

We regularly audit our website and tools for accessibility issues and prioritize fixes based on severity and impact.
